How are Bannerhall helping you ease into 4th Edition?
We all know change can be scary, we had it easy towards the end of 3rd Edition. We knew what to expect from a Kings of War events, we knew what army we were bringing, we knew what accessories we’d need and we mostly knew how the rules worked. Now, with the release of 4th Edition that’s no longer completely true, so below I thought I’d detail what Bannerhall are doing to help ease us into 4th Edition events, and hopefully appease worries that some people might have.
Proxies are Okay!
One of the biggest changes that 4th Edition brings is a new way that we construct our army lists. What this will mean for many people is that our regular tournament army is no longer valid, and we have considerable hobby effort ahead of us to finish off our first 4th edition armies. Because of this, there is no requirement for armies to be completed for the Marching Forth event in March this year. I appreciate a couple of months into the new year it’ll will be tricky to get your army exactly how you’d like it. I also understand that not everyone enjoys playing with unpainted models so if you would prefer to proxy your models with another unit of the same base size then that is also okay. As long as it’s made clear what that model is actually representing.
40mm Tokens for Everyone!
The size of our Objective tokens and Loot tokens have changed size from 25mm to 40mm. Now I appreciate this isn’t a huge deal, but I know being prepared and having all the correct accessories to hand can be important to people. So I will make sure all attendee will have a full set of Objectives/Loot/Bluff tokens for the event!
Base of Champions!
In a similar vein to the above points, our lovely heroes are getting a glow-up and will no longer be on measily 20mm/25mm bases, but are now on massive 40mm/50mm bases. If you don’t have the time to rebase your champions let us know and we will make sure everyone who needs them has a suitable conversion base to use.
Keeping it Simple!
What with all the other changes to the rules, we plan on keeping the rest of the event as straight forward as possible. We won’t be introducing any special rules / scenarios / special characters. All scenarios will be as per the 4th Edition rulebook.
Army Lists emailed in!
I’m not sure if people have noticed, but Mantic’s companion is no longer allowing TOs to export all submitted army lists as PDFs. This means we’re not able to publish everyones army lists like we have done previously. To mitigate this we’re going to ask for people to submit their army lists on the Companion as normal, but also to email us the PDFs of the lists so we can share them with all attendees (more details will follow by email). We’re hoping that publishing army lists in this way will allow people to read through the lists prior to the event, and help understand some of the new army rules or abilities, hopefully minimising any nasty surprises on the day.
Rulebooks to hand!
One of the awesome things about Kings of War is how infrequently we have to dive into the rulebooks to check something. We’re probably all in the habit of not even bringing our rulebooks to events anymore, especially having the companion so easily accessible. Don’t worry we’re not going to ask everyone to bring their rulebook, but I will have mine out and easily accessible, for anybody to reference. We also encourage anybody that prefers flicking through a rulebook over scrolling the compaion to bring their rulebook along with them for ease.
